IT ALL STARTS WITH PASSION
It is a fact that passion is shared by everybody who is Fantastic at what they do (and, perhaps not surprisingly, is always absent from those who are not). Think of Richard Branson, Mary Portas and Alan Sugar, all unflaggingly passionate about why they are doing what they are doing.
Most of us start something new with a passion: a new job, a relationship, a hobby, a diet, fitness class. It’s when we lose the passion that things start going wrong. We begin to hate our job, fall out of love, stop going to the gym. We’ve all experienced it.
Why does this happen? Losing passion kills that spark. If we can solve why we lose it, then surely we can find out how to get it back again.
WHERE YOU PUT YOUR FOCUS IS WHERE YOU GET RESULTS
Passion is about focus. Understand the difference between ‘what’ you do every day and ‘why’ you do it: for instance, if a street cleaner is only focussing on picking up rubbish then they will feel… rubbish. But if they focus on keeping streets clean so that they improve the quality of people’s lives – and the importance of that – then they will feel Fantastic.
BE EXCITED ABOUT WHERE YOU’RE GOING
Get excited about not just by where you are going – but ‘why’ you are going there. Do you want to achieve certain things in your job or do you want to buy a property? Maybe get a new car or explore up a new interest? Perhaps you have a passion for conserving the environment, supporting the elderly or committed to humanitarian aid. It’s harnessing the reason why you are doing what you are doing that gives you passion.
FANTASTIC PEOPLE DO IT BACKWARDS…
Try reaching for the stars. You may never touch them but you will get off the ground trying. Fantastic people start with what might seem to be an unobtainable dream and then work backwards until they find something they can take action on that begins the journey. It’s that action that gets you moving towards success.
