In our previous post, we talked about why delighting people and being likable is a great way to not only delight others but to also further your career. We also promised to tell you about FLOW, a great personal checklist to make sure YOU are always delighting people.
So…FLOW. What does it mean? Let’s start from the top.
F stands for First impressions.
We all know how important first impressions are. It takes a quick glance, just a few seconds, for someone to form an impression of you. In this short space of time the other person forms an opinion based on your appearance, body language, demeanor, mannerisms and how you are dressed.
Sometimes, these first opinions can be nearly impossible to undo, making these first impressions even more important, for they set the tone for the relationship that follows.
L stands for Last impressions.
Everyone talks about how important first impressions are, when actually, last impressions are potentially even more important.
With a poor first impression, while it may be hard, at least you have time to maybe pull it back. A poor last impression and they’re gone.
F, First impression. L, Last impression.
O stands for Ouch.
The ouches are the tiny little bites. On their own, one or two ouches is not the end of the world. Put a few together, you get 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ouches; that’s someone who’s not coming back to you.
Sometimes, the interesting thing about the ouches is that when you get a big bite, not a little one, something really bad happens. A big bite can usually be changed, learned from and turned into a really positive experience.
The problem with the little ouches is that they don’t come back. Nobody comes back and tells you about the tiny things. They only tell you about the big things.
And finally W. W stands for Wow.
Are you wowing people? Are you blowing them out of the water?
All this month we have been highlighting the benefits of delighting people, WOWing them. Make sure you’re leaving a great, lasting impression on people; if you do, you can guarantee they will always come back.
That’s FLOW. Make sure to check your FLOW everyday. Delight has to be consistent. You can’t just delight people on Tuesdays!
